A giant golden van followed by a long line of people might have caught your attention today had you been near the corner of N. College Avenue and 52nd Street in Broad Ripple from 11AM-5PM. However, this is no food truck selling ice-cream or afternoon lunch. Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, The Third Man Rolling Record Store brings their inventory of vinyls to various cities, festivals, concerts, and events with anywhere from a few weeks to a few hours notice. Today this mobile store parked out front of LUNA Music and sold a limited quantity of The Prisonaires Sun Ray vinyls featuring a beautiful black and yellow splatter design.
The Third Man Rolling Record Store was created in 2011 after many requested that Third Man create pop-up record shops. The truck houses a professional DJ station that can be used to give the crowd a taste of the music or for a full-on DJ session. What’s really spectacular about the truck are all the custom details that link it back to the original Third Man Store in Nashville. The logo can be seen on the wheels, the walls, and the hood ornament. There’s even a hydraulic system similar to those found on motor homes to level out the truck when it’s parked. This keeps the record players level and playing vinyls under pristine conditions. This is not the first time Third Man has stopped in Indy and we sure hope it’s not their last.
