The heart of Rock ‘n’ Roll is still beating. And soon it will beat a little faster as 80s rock band Huey Lewis and the News bring their “SPORTS 30th Anniversary Tour” to Hoosier Park’s Outdoor Music Center in Anderson, Indiana on Saturday, June 8, 2013.
It’s the perfect opportunity to go “Back in Time” and enjoy such all-time 80s favorites as “I Want a New Drug,” “Stuck with You,” “Doing It All for My Baby,” “If This Is It,” “Do You Believe in Love,” “Heart and Soul,” “Hip to Be Square,” “The Heart of Rock & Roll” and— as if we could we forget—“The Power of Love.” In fact, it was that last song that made the band an international sensation and perhaps their greatest hit of all time. We are talking about songs that helped define the 80s pop rock genre. The album Sports all by itself sold 10 million copies.
It’s amazing what time can do. When recently asked by TV host Rachael Ray how touring today compares to touring in the band’s heyday lead vocalist Huey Lewis responds, “Well, the hotels are a lot nicer and we’re get a lot more sleep than we used to. But we used to be a beer and hotdog band. And now we’re hanging with the wine and cheese set.” In respond to a question posed by a fan concerning how he maintains a good balance between work and life, Huey responds, “… we’ve sort of rededicated ourselves to the band …our kids have all pretty much grown up, and we’re starting to write some new material, and thinking of another record even … It is true, however, that the traveling is rough, but look what we get to do for a living!”
The band has added some new musicians as well. What was formerly a 6-piece band is now a 12-piece.
The tour will hit close to 50 cities across the U.S., and will even perform at The Sage in Gateshead, England in September and London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in October.
One final tip: You might want to leave the parachute pants at home!
