iPride: Indy Pride 25th Anniversary Exhibition

From now until June 22, 2013 an exhibit featuring art created by Hoosier Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender artists will be displayed at the Indianapolis Artsgarden. The iPride showcase is in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the first public Pride celebrations in Indianapolis and coincides with the Circle City IN Pride Festival which will run June 1-9, 2013.

Indy Pride, Inc. and the Indianapolis Arts Council have organized the exhibit and volunteer curators Michael Barclay, Museum Studies Graduate Candidate at IUPUI, and Paula Katz, Director and Curator of the Herron Galleries at Herron School or Art & Design, asked artists to submit their works for consideration. Nine artists were selected to showcase their paintings, sculptures, photography, and/or videos. There are many unique pieces that portray everything from the struggle that many in the LGBT community face to celebrating diversity and embracing pride.

Along with the artwork is a display dedicated to telling the history of Indianapolis Pride. It all began with a small group of supporters in the early 1980s and has grown to over 80,000 in 2012. You’ll also find information about Indy Pride, INC. and all the events surrounding the week-long celebration.
