In case you’re unfamiliar with him, Lancton is one of the most accomplished and prolific guitarists in the Midwest. Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, he moved to Indianapolis in 1973, where he began his music career. He has performed all over the U.S., and was awarded a Creative Renewal Fellowship and grant in 2005 by the Arts Council of Indianapolis. He has performed with top, national acts, as well as great jazz artists like Steve Allee, Melvin Rhyne, Fareed Haque and Mindi Abair to name a few. Four decades later, he’s still going strong.
His original compositions exude a real Latin flare, with a touch of funk and even bossa. He is also an accomplished contemporary jazz artist, and is skilled in providing quiet background music for venues where volume is an issue. There is a certain soulfulness that comes through in his solo work. He is a virtuoso in his own right.
He performs with his band at all the major jazz festivals and clubs, in addition to performing at concert venues and private a appearances. His latest band, The Red Hot Whiskey Sippers consists of Bill, Michael Beck, Jim Litchfield & Rich Dole, and of course, the big man himself, Bill Lancton.
