Want to design and create a lantern for the Annual Feast of Lanterns Festival? Lantern making workshops are the first and third Mondays of the month at the Chase Near Eastside Legacy Center from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Local artists will help you create a unique one-of-a-kind lantern that will proudly be displayed and auctioned off at the festival on August 24th. All you need to bring is your creativity and a willingness to learn.
You’ll first decide what type of lantern to make and work on a design. In the past people have constructed anything from a dragonfly to hot air balloons. Next you’ll cut wires and solder them together to build your lantern frame. Finally you’ll have an array of tissue paper to choose from to cover the frame and complete your design. The lanterns can be built to sit on a table or be hung from a tree. Proceeds from the silent auction will be used to make improvements to the Near Eastside.
