Holy Tabernacles! The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will perform at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Friday, June 14, 2013. This is one of the most established and most recognizable choirs in the world, one that unites different cultures and even transcends generational boundaries.
The Indianapolis performance which will feature the 360-voice world-renowned choir and 65 members of the Orchestra at Temple Square, is part of a larger, Midwest tour that runs through 5 other cities, including Columbus, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and Minneapolis.
The Choir’s repertoire is surprisingly diverse, and includes everything from American folk hymns and spirituals to Bach and even Broadway.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has a long history of touring both domestically and internationally. Since its inception in the mid-1800s, it has been a voice for the tragedies and triumphs of people all around the globe. They have performed before audiences in Israel, Russia, Japan and Australia, and even performed before 6 different U.S. presidents at their inaugural celebrations.
When the Choir began broadcasting via radio in 1929, no one imagined that the show would someday become the world’s longest continuing network broadcast, but that’s exactly what happened. The show now runs on over 2,000 radio and television stations throughout the world.
