Get ready for a very hairy fairy tale as “Rapunzel” comes to life in a hilarious re-telling of the classic fairy tale. “Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale” is playing at the Indianapolis Children Museum’s Lilly Theatre now through August 4, 2013.
“Oh I wish that I could fly away, far beyond the forest trees! Maybe catch a skybird by the tail, sailing on the ocean breeze,” says Rapunzel, who has been locked away in a tower for twelve years by the evil Lady Za Za.
But when Sir Roderick hears her beautiful voice singing one day in the dark forest, he knows they were meant to be together. With the help of a somewhat neurotic Gypsy Woman and a tired-but-witty old dragon named Socrates whose poofs are more like puffs, Sir Roderick will try to save Rapunzel from her dismal existence in the dark forest, so she can assume her rightful place as queen of the land.
This lively production was written by the award winning tandem of Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman, both of whom are composers, lyricists, and playwrights. Their musicals have played throughout the U.S., Canada and Australia.
The musical features a cast of eight performers and runs approximately 60 minutes. The score ranges in genre from pop to country.
