An original parody of E.L. James’ blockbuster 50 Shades of Grey, the controversial book turned musical is now on its second leg of its National Tour. Centering around a sexually repressed book club, three women branch away from their cookbooks and Nicholas Sparks to explore the explicit world of Christian Grey.
What seems to have made the show so successful is the casts ability to push the stereotypes and archetypes their characters represent to the limits. If you’re looking for a show full of sexual innuendos and steamy moments then this parody just might be for you.
Rock of Ages, on the other hand, is not a newbie to the theater scene. Combining rock, comedy and love, this show is everything you loved about the 80’s. Featuring songs from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, and other well-known rock bands, it would be hard not to sing-a-long. It must be good if people have seen performances of the show 100+ times. I just can’t imagine seeing anything over and over like that… How many times have you seen Rock of Ages?
