The Indianapolis Municipal Band (IMB) will kick off its 2014 concert season with a Spring Concert on Wednesday, March 5 at 7:00pm.
My good friend Lidia plays the French horn in this band, which is the oldest all-volunteer community band in the city. According to Lidia, many of the members are retired music teachers or band directors. Lidia is neither; she’s a multi-talented lady who likes to play the French horn. I guess there aren’t many places to do that, so I’m glad IMB is there.
Lidia has been inviting me to IMB performances for several years. Finally, last July 4 my family and I were able to make it to one. That particular performance was along the downtown canal. It was really a fun time. The upcoming concert will take place at the Howard L. Schrott Center for the Arts on the campus of Butler University.
The program for the Spring Concert includes the following pieces:
Free Lance March
Fiddler on the Roof
Angelic Festival – Leroy
All performances of the IMB are free and open to the public, which makes them a perfect way to introduce kids to orchestral music — if they hate it (and likely, they won’t), you didn’t sink a bunch of money into the outing. For the complete 2014 concert schedule, click here.
