Spring Break 2014 in Your Own Backyard

Spring break is happening all across central Indiana, and with any luck, the weather will continue to be spring-like. There are plenty of fun things happening around town over the next few weeks, so grab your calendar and pencil a few fun things in while the kids aren’t weighed down by homework or early morning alarms.

Celebrate everything dinosaur at the Children’s Museum. The dinosphere is ten years old, and the museum is celebrating! The big celebration day is March 29th, but special activities are happening through April 6th. Check the museum website for specific activities, but throughout spring break, there will be special dino-themed guests and activities.

Go out to eat on Tuesday. Why Tuesday? Because kids eat free at all Scotty’s Brewhouse locations and at Teddy’s Burger Joint. Local food, fun atmosphere, and kids eat free. What else could you want on a Tuesday night? Busy Tuesday? You could also go out to eat practically any day of the week and find a restaurant that has a kids eat free event happening.  Check your favorite haunts and places you’ve always wanted to try- and feed the family on the cheap.

Go to the library. Sure all of the libraries around town are full of books, but they are also full of so much more. Here’s a sampling of activities happening across the Indianapolis Library system during spring break: face painting workshops, performances by Brazilian dancers, a Dr. Suess show, and animal presentations by Animala. Look up your local branch and see what’s happening. Go on a library tour and visit a branch you never have.

Monon trail benches

Explore the Monon Trail. Hop on the Monon and see what you can see. Create a scavenger hunt, or walk toward a mystery destination. There are plenty of treat shops to be found along the way. Head toward Broad Ripple and spend sometime on the bridge over the White River, and explore the grounds of the Indianapolis Art Center. The possibilities are endless.

Indianapolis is home to many world-class, family-friendly places and events, and spring break is the perfect time to check them out! So make a plan and make it a spring break to remember!
