The Indy Fringe Theatre Festival is known for its edgy theatrical offerings, live stage shows that push the limits of human emotion and experience. This year, one of those shows is taking that emotion and turning it into something practical. The Actual Dance, a play written by Sam Simon, is the true story of Sam’s journey with his wife as she faced, battled, and defeated breast cancer. For one performance, mammograms will be offered before showtime.
Sam and Susan met when they were 16 years old. In their 33rd year of marriage, Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer. The Actual Dance chronicles the love between them and the different ways they each approached the diagnosis and treatment. You can view the trailer at the link below.
For the Indianapolis Fringe Festival, Simon has teamed up with St. Vincent Mobile Mammography to offer on-site mammograms to pre-screened patients before the August 17, 2014 show. Individuals wishing to schedule a mammogram must pre-register by August 11, 2014. St. Vincent will file insurance for those patients covered by health insurance and will work with uninsured patients.
