#Indianapolis #Indiana – IndyFringe has closed for another year, but the theatres that host the event each year continue to host unique performances. Up and down Massachusetts Avenue, theatre goers have a wide range of shows from which to choose. In the upcoming weeks, visitors can see a magician, a performance of the Beatle’s set list from their 1964 show at the Indiana State Fair, and more.
Theatre on the Square
Magician Max Major is making a stop at Theatre on the Square tomorrow night as part of his 2014 tour. This D.C. magician and mentalist has been wowing crowds across the country with a special blend of magic and apparent mind-reading. Audience members will be entertained, and may leave a bit baffled. This award winning entertainer puts on a 90 minute show that’s difficult to describe. He’s performing one show only, Thursday, August 28 at 8pm. Visit maxmajor.com for more information and to purchase tickets.
Before Clark Gable Slept Here takes the stage at the Phoenix Theatre, a special Beatles tribute will take place. Beatles tribute band, Matthew Street, will play the set list from the Beatles 1964 performance at the Indiana State Fair. How fun is that? Remember, the Beatles had only ‘arrived’ in America earlier that year with a performance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February. Enjoy some early Beatles hits, as well as a few covers of popular songs of the time. Shows will take place September 5, 6 and 7. Tickets are $15 for this all ages show. Visit phoenixtheatre.org for more information.
IndyFringe Basile Theatre Distracted, a production by the Wisdom Tooth Theatre Project, will be playing at the The IndyFringe Basile Theatre. The show opens on September 11, and takes a look at modern life, interruptions and all. Jesse is the young boy at the center of the story, and the adults in his life are forced to ask, “Is he dysfunctional, just different or distracted?” The show runs for two weekends and tickets can be purchased online at indyfringe.org.
Comedy Sportz didn’t miss a beat after hosting show after show for IndyFringe 14. In addition to their three weekly shows, as well as Friday night late night performances, Comedy Sportz is holding auditions for their professional roster. If you’ve got a knack for improv, this could be YOUR opportunity to get on stage. Auditions will be held from 2-5pm Saturday, August 30th. Visit indycomedysportz.com for more information.
Were you lucky enough to be able to see a screening of the Internet Cat Video Festival? If so, you’re familiar with the majestic Athenaeum facility. The building dates back to the late 1800s, and has seen a lot of history within its walls. On September 26, the annual Ghost Hunt fundraiser takes you through the Athenaeum like you’ve never gone through before. Access to 14 haunted locations inside the building will be provided during this unforgettable evening. Mark your calendar for September 26, and visit athenaeumfoundation.org for more details and to purchase tickets. The theatres along Mass Ave. offer diverse programing year round. It isn’t always as compact as IndyFringe, but it’s quality programing that contributes to Indianapolis being a world-class city. The next time you go for a stroll along this interesting street, stop and look at some of the poster advertising what’s happening up and down the block. What you find might surprise you!
