#Indianapolis – It’s all about the Mo’ this November, as men across Indianapolis prepare to “shave the date” and participate in Movember Indy, the thriving local organization of global men’s health charity Movember. In support of raising awareness for prostate and testicular cancer, Movember Indy encourages local moustache and charity enthusiasts to sharpen their razors and partake in this worldwide effort.
Registered Hoosier participants, also known as Mo Bros, will start Nov. 1 clean shaven and will groom and trim their way to fine moustachery for the entire month. As they effectively transform into walking, talking billboards, the men will advocate private and public conversations around the often overlooked issue of men’s health.
In 2013, more than 3,300 gallant Hoosiers sported hirsute facial masterpieces raising nearly $114,371 in Indianapolis and $174,859 across the state. After nearly doubling participation in 2011, Indianapolis was named the second largest participation increase in major cities nationwide in 2012 by the national Movember Foundation.
Movember began in Melbourne, Australia and has since grown into a worldwide campaign that calls attention to men’s health issues. Since 2003, more than 4 million men and women have raised $559 million to date, which has funded 800 programs in 21 countries. In the U.S., the beneficiaries are the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG Foundation.
“This movement aims to change the way men think about their health by putting a fun twist on a serious issue,” said Bryan Kendall, local chairman of Movember Indy.” By using the moustache as our hairy ribbon of support for prostate and testicular cancer, we can have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s heath.”
Ladies can also participate in the movement. Mo Sistas get involved in the same way as Mo Bros, except they don’t have to grow a Mo. They register on http://us.movember.com/, start a team and recruit the men in their lives to participate, raise funds, spread the word and participate in events.
Following the 30 days, all Mo Bros in the Indianapolis area will join together at the Movember Indy Gala Party, a formal extravaganza to flaunt their hairy achievement and celebrate a month-long, razor-free altruistic experience.
Indianapolis men and women can register to grow or support a Mo on the national website: http://us.movember.com/.
Registered Mo Bro’s are invited to showcase their facial craftsmanship at various local events. For more information on how to get involved with Movember Indy or for a list of events, please visit http://movemberindy.com. Connect with Movember Indy on Facebook or Twitter.
