Sports in the Circle City enjoy a rich and storied history, so much so that they are embedded in the culture of Indianapolis. It was in 1911 that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway first held the Indianapolis 500, the event that single-handedly put Indy on the sports-world map. Even though this race is now the largest single day sporting event in the world, the sports scene in Indianapolis is made up of much more than the repetition of four left turns.
It is widely known that in Indiana basketball is not just a sport, it’s a way of life. From the three year old who just picked up his first basketball to the starting five for the Indiana Pacers, things like the three man weave and the full-court press are in a Hoosier’s DNA. Every Sunday during the Fall and Winter months our city is awash with Colts jerseys showing support for our boys in blue. It’s not just local sports that make Indy so special, Conseco Fieldhouse has played host to the NCAA Men’s Final Four Basketball Tournement and the state of the art Lucas Oil Stadium is the home of the 2012 Super Bowl.
While furthering education in Indianapolis is the top priority of all of the local colleges and universities, they provide some of the best in collegiate sports action as well. Whether it’s professional, college, amateur or even just kids, Indianapolis is home to some of the greatest games on earth; the links below will show you why.
