If you’re looking for ways to add to the ever-expanding knowledge bank in your child’s mind, Conner Prairie Interactive History Park is always a great choice. This popular Fishers attraction is a favorite learning environment for Indianapolis kids, and there’s always something special going on to add to you and your child’s education.
This weekend, March 19-21, 2010, make sure to stop in at Conner Prairie before the Hearthside Suppers event draws to a close for the season. This fun activity allows both you and your kids to prepare your very own early 19 century dinner, complete with all the trimmings. You’ll learn what cooking paraphernalia was needed all those years ago, in addition to the dedication that went into making a complete meal straight from the 1800s.
On the menu will be recipes right from 19 century cookbooks. Expect to learn how to whip up pounded cheese and crackers, Queen soup (creamed chicken soup), Chicken fricassee, skillet cranberries, hearth bread with fresh butter and jam, and more. And the best part? The meal will be served by candlelight, for an authentic dining experience of days gone past.
After the gourmet meal, the participants of Hearthside Suppers at Conner Prairie will be treated to tour of the historic 1823 Conner House. They’ll learn about life in the Hoosier state during the 1800s, complete with costumed hosts who can answer any questions they may have. Entertainment in the parlor will follow for a complete and well-rounded tour of the 19 century in Indiana.
While the Hearthside Suppers at Conner Prairie activity is recommended for ages 10 and older, the whole family is welcome to sign up. Signing up 12 people at the same time will reserve a whole evening just for your group so you can enjoy a special family experience. Groups of 12 or more may also preorder wine to accompany the meal for those of drinking age attending.
