The Ruth Lilly Performance Hall is one of the brilliant gems among the many Indianapolis performance venues that comprise the real treasure of Indianapolis. Located in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center inside the University of Indianapolis, the facility is recognized throughout the United States as a heavyweight training, rehearsing and performance vehicle.
The Lilly Performance Hall is thoroughly equipped for its many lofty purposes. It was named for another Indianapolis bright light, Eli Lilly, founder of Eli Lilly and Company, one of the largest of Indianapolis businesses. The Lilly family became a major philanthropic force in the Indianapolis arts and cultural community, whose influence seems to continue to widen out to other cities in Indiana.
The main focal point of the Christel DeHaan facility is the exquisite Ruth Lilly Performance Hall. Modeled along the lines of a Viennese-style performance auditorium, the room is sumptuous yet modern, with several sections and tiers of plush seating for 500. The star of the show, however, is the venue’s perfect acoustics. The excellent sound is reputed to be unsurpassed anywhere in the world, which is one reason that Ruth Lilly Performance Hall has hosted many world-class musicians, along with most of the finest musicians in Indianapolis.
Today this special venue, in an unassuming corner of Indiana, speaks to audiences in a clarion voice full of the beauty and power of the live arts, and inspires lucky students to greater heights of expression.
