Do It Best Corp.

In order to bring customers the absolute lowest prices possible, Do It Best Corp. was founded in 1945 as a cooperative originally called Hardware Wholesalers Inc. in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Today there are more than 4,100 independently owned hardware stores and home improvement retailers that are members of Do It Best Corp, located in Indianapolis and beyond.

Arnold Gerberding started Hardware Wholesalers Inc. more than 60 years ago, and his vision has turned into a large multi-billion dollar company. In the beginning, he found himself competing for low prices with the growing home catalog businesses and retailers like Sears, Roebuck & Company and Montgomery Ward. Gerberding admired the way local farming co-ops did business, so he set out to model after their business success.

Member companies are able to pass on savings to their customers because of the bulk buying compacity of the co-op. In the late 1990s, Do It Best Corp. launched the website, which represents all member stores and is known as the “world’s largest hardware store.” This interactive website allows customers to order and ship products with safe shopping and 30-day satisfaction guarantees.

The co-op is the only full-service, full-line buying cooperative in the hardware, building materials and lumber industry. There are members of the co-op located in all 50 states and in several other countries worldwide. All member stores are independently owned, but some of them even host the Do It Best title because of its trusted brand.

Do It Best Corp. has a product line offering more than 65,000 items, anything from pet supplies to hardware. These products touch the lives of countless Hoosiers, by helping them complete Indianapolis real estate building, home improvements and even yard work. Several Indianapolis arts organizations also rely on Do It Best Corp. members to provide special supplies. If you’re shopping around Indianapolis for your hardware needs, Do It Best Corp. has everything you could possibly need. The company offers a range of products, including automotive, building materials, cleaning supplies, doors & windows, electrical, electronics, farm & ranch tools, hand tools, hardware, heating & cooling, holiday, home accents, housewares, kitchen & bath, lawn & garden, lighting & fans, office supplies, outdoor recreation, paint & supplies, pet supplies, plumbing, power tools, safety, storage & organizing, wall coverings, and work clothing.
