Sex/Death: Challenging and Racy Theatre

Sex/Death, of the 2009 indyFringe Theater Festival, is a unique exploration of two themes that plague mankind. Playing at Theater on the Square‘s mainstage on Mass Ave, a quartet of actors bring to life seven short plays concerning sex, death, or both. With a great sense of humor they delve into the hard questions, tackling topics that people rarely talk about with wit.

Erin Sullivan, Derrick Krober, Ian McCabe and Margot Morgan are the players in each of these skits, playing a variety of characters from serial killer to plumber to an anal retentive suicidal hypochondriac. They have come to Indianapolis from Bloomington, Indiana, where many of them attend Indiana University. They came together to produce this play in the 2009 indyFringe Theater Festival as part of the Bloomington Playwrights Project.

Each piece has a different point of view that is sure to pique the interest of theater goers ready for some laughs as well as food for thought. From the campy story of a wife who cheats right in front of her husband, to their tongue in cheek version of a horror story that is truly horrifying, the playwrights toy with making patrons uncomfortable from time to time. But the actors are quick in their performance to grab a laugh when it is most needed…just as they have pushed you past your own comfort zone.

A challenging and wonderful piece, Sex/Death takes theater to a different level. Check it out at Theater on the Square all this week. Not for the faint of heart, this play does contain some graphic ideas and full frontal male nudity. But the cast of characters is worth coming out for.

The 2009 indyFringe Festival is creating excitement in Indianapolis downtown. Indianapolis performing art and Indianapolis art are coming alive in various venues all around the Circle City. Do not miss this fun Indianapolis festival.
