Oct. 28 Service Set for Myles Brand of Indiana University

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The NCAA and Indiana University will host a tribute for former President Myles Brand AT 6:00 pm on October 28, at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis downtown. The service will be on eastern time.

The NCAA and Indiana University are providing friends, family and colleagues the opportunity to pay tribute to the significant leadership and vision Myles Brand provided to higher Indianapolis education, college athletics and student-athletes throughout his life as an educator and executive. As a role model for young men and women interested in Indianapolis sports, Brand led a full life.

The event will celebrate and honor Myles Brand’s life as a leader in education and sports with guest speakers, video tributes and artistic performances. Additional details will be announced in the coming weeks. Attendees will be invited to the tribute, and a limited number of seats will be made available to the public closer to the October 28 date.

The first university president to lead the NCAA as its chief executive, Myles Brand died September 16 from pancreatic cancer. He assumed his duties as NCAA president in January 2003, after serving as president of Indiana University from 1994 through 2002. Myles Brand also served as president of the University of Oregon and held several other administrative and faculty positions at a number of universities throughout his career.

He will always be remembered in the Circle City for his dedication to Indianapolis kids, Indianapolis sports, and Indianapolis education. Many young people in Indy and other Indiana cities were impacted by his dedication to them, to sports and to education at Indiana University.
