Butler University’s Visiting Writers Series Welcomes C.J. Hribal Tuesday, Oct. 6

The Butler University Vivian S. Delbrook Visiting Writers Series welcomes American Beauty author C.J. Hribal this Tuesday, October 6 at 7:30 pm. Hribal will read from his most recent publication and participate in a question and answer session Tuesday in the Krannert Room of Clowes Memorial Hall on Butler University’s campus. This is a free Indianapolis event!

Indianapolis welcomes author C.J. Hribal from his home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he lives with his wife and three children. Over the years he has haphazardly found his way into the limelight of the creative fiction world publishing such masterpieces as American Beauty, which later went on to become an Academy Award winning film. His other published works of fiction include Matty’s Heart, The Clouds in Memphis, and his new work The Company Car. Hribal also edited an anthology, for which he wrote the introduction, called The Boundaries of Twilight: Czecho-Slovak Writing from the New World.

C.J. Hribal attended St. Norbert College where he received a BA in Creative Writing. He then went on to earn an MFA from Syracuse University in New York. In his time as a struggling author he recalls working some of the most difficult and mind numbing jobs available like in a canning factory, as a garbage man, a cookie salesman, a book store clerk and a hotel desk clerk. Now he has reached a modicum of success by receiving prestigious awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship, the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a Bush Foundation Fellowship, and  Loft-Mentor Fellowship.

Butler University is proud to extend the opportunity to hear this writer read from his own work to the entire Indianapolis community. This event is free and open to all Indianapolis people.
