Energy Explodes in Downtown Indianapolis this Weekend: The Power of Percussion

Two major cacophonous  Indianapolis events come together in the Indianapolis downtown sector this weekend to produce explosive energy for the maximum enjoyment and innervation of Hoosiers from all over Indiana and beyond. Below is a brief summation of each.

Bands of America 2009 Grand National Championships

Starting today, November 12, the Grand Nationals Championship competition called Bands of America convened in Indianapolis’ new, state of the art Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts, to determine which of the best of the best bands in the United States will go home with the ultimate marching band trophy.

This event is universally hailed as the premier marching band competition in the nation and brings enormous recognition to any band that participates. By Saturday, November 14, only twelve out of 90 bands will compete for the coveted National Championship award. Exhibitions by some of the best marching bands in America will also be given throughout the duration of the course of the Bands of America Grand Nationals, which culminate in an all-out, roof-raising finals competition on this Saturday, November 14, 2009.

Percussive Arts Society International Convention

This rambunctious Indianapolis convention takes place right next door to the Bands of America Grand Nationals described above, when the Percussive Arts Society produces the largest annual celebration of the percussive arts in the world in the heart of the Circle City at the Indiana Convention Center.

Also scheduled to run from through November 14, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention takes over the enormous facilities to display the best and latest in percussion instruments, music, accessories and other services. Many other small ensembles will compete as well during the Percussion Expo, which is also comprised of clinics, percussive arts networking and over 100 vendors exhibiting their glitziest percussion wares.
