Mickey’s Corner Hosts Astronaut David Wolf at JCC Indy

The Arthur M. Glick Jewish Community Center often hosts some of the most interesting lecture and discussion events in Indianapolis. Whether during their Ann Katz Festival of Books annually or in a regularly scheduled discussion forum like Mickey’s Corner, this Indianapolis nonprofit organization constantly provides Indianapolis society with interesting evenings out. This Tuesday, December 15, Mickey’s Corner of the Jewish Community Center in Indianapolis will host Hoosier astronaut David Wolf. Wolf just recently returned from the International Space Station. He will speak to his life experience and take questions from the audience. Tickets are $10.00, $5.00 for JCC members. The doors open at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, December 15.

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, David Wolf is a true Hoosier through and through. Dr. David Wolf is a graduate of the Arthur M. Glick Jewish Community Center’s Early Childhood Education program and North Central High School. Wolf earned a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and attended Indiana University where he earned his medical degree. This Indy boy returns to his roots on Tuesday to share his amazing story.

Following his graduation from Indiana University, David Wolf began training to be a flight surgeon for the United States Air Force. He joined the Johnson Space Center in 1983 to study the physiological effects of microgravity. He was selected to be an astronaut in 1990, and flew his first mission aboard the STS-58 in 1993. He stayed on the Russian Spacecraft MIR for a total of 158 days during an extended stay. In addition to his long stay on the Russian space station MIR, Wolf led an assembly mission for the International Space Station. He was also the lead Space walker and Mission Specialist on STS-127, where he worked on the Japanese Experiment Module.

In addition, Wolf was the first American to vote from space, casting a ballot in the 1997 Houston election. As of 2009, Dr. David Wolf has been in space on five separate missions, and he has logged 168 days in space. This space-man will speak with Mickey Maurer this Tuesday evening. David Wolf has prepared a visual presentation in addition to the regular discussion. Get ready for some “out of this world show and tell!” For more information about this very special Indianapolis education event, visit the JCC Indy website.
