Butler University Faculty Artist Series Presents Dr. Kate Boyd and Anna Briscoe

Indianapolis music fans and students at Butler University are going to be in for a treat today, February 2nd. The Indianapolis school will be featuring Anna Briscoe and Dr. Kate Boyd in its Faculty Artist Series, an Indianapolis event that occurs almost every Tuesday evening. The Faculty Artist Series is designed to highlight the talents and abilities of the professors and instructors at Butler University’s School of Music, a nationally recognized program that routinely churns out some of the best musicians in the United States.

This week’s program features the talented piano duo of Dr. Kate Boyd and Anna Briscoe. Dr. Kate Boyd is an extremely experienced solo and group performer who has displayed her talents all around the world, in Indianapolis and beyond. She has performed with the Butler University Wind Ensemble and will be releasing her first CD, a collection of contemporary American piano works, later in 2010. In 2009, she was a recipient of the Arts Council of Indianapolis‘ Creative Renewal Fellowship; she has also won a Fullbright scholarship to Germany and fellowships to the Tanglewood Center, the Banff Centre for the Arts, Blossom Music Center, and Prussia Cove.

Dr. Kate Boyd will be performing with Anna Briscoe, another member of the Butler University School of Music faculty. Anna Briscoe has played piano around the world, including with the College Music Society, the American Musicological Society, and the Music Teachers National Association. Most recently, she performed Rachmaninoff with the Indianapolis Philharmonic Orchestra. Aside from teaching at Butler, Anna Briscoe also runs a private studio and is the primary touring piano accompanist for the Indianapolis Children’s Choir.

The concert is free of charge, both to students and the general public, and begins at 7:30 P.M. at the Edison-Duckwall Recital Hall in downtown Indianapolis. Past educators that have participated in the Faculty Artist Series include Greg Imboden, Matt Pivec, Larry Shapiro, and more.
