This Indianapolis museum stands apart from the rest with actor-interpreters on hand to make your experience as authentic as possible. Gracious Groundhog

Friday, February 5, 2010, head to Conner Prairie to celebrate Groundhog’s Day. Each Winter one famous groundhog tells us if Spring will stay at bay for six more weeks. Friday find out if the groundhog saw his shadow at Conner Prairie’s Gracious Groundhog. Learn how this tradition came to be. Why exactly is it that a groundhog has this special power. Plus, hear about how groundhogs and other animals cope with the cold cold winter. Get involved by making shadow puppets and searching for animal tracks on the grounds of Conner Prairie. This Indianapolis event is part of the Prairie Tykes series and designed for kids age two to five. It costs $9.00 for youth members and $10.00 for non youth members. Family Pottery

Is your family bouncing of the walls because of the cold weather this Winter? Get out of the house and try something new at Conner Prairie’s Family Pottery class. Try your hand for one afternoon at the pottery wheel. Parents and children share a wheel, taking turns making pottery and lending encouragement. For ages ten and up only. This Indianapolis event is $85.00 per person ($80.00 for members). Check it out Saturday, February 6, 2010, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Reservations are required.

Journal Making

Journals were a huge part of life for many early Americans. A special place for your thoughts and eyes only is a wonderful meditative exercise. Join Debby Lovell, expert journal maker, for a hands on look at how journals are made. Each step is broken down into an easy to understand process, from paper making to paper marbling, leather work and even book binding. Leave this informative class with your very own handmade journal. All materials are provided, and reservations are required. $75.00 per person and $65.00 for members. This Indianapolis event is Saturday, February 6, 2010, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
