Join in the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Downtown Indianapolis

With only one week left before the biggest day in Spring in the Circle City, you may have already signed up for the Shamrock Run & Walk in downtown Indianapolis on March 13th. But did you know that a whole day of fun Indianapolis events is also planned for the actual holiday on March 17th? Indy citizens love a good party, and the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in downtown Indianapolis has everything you need for a day of fun in the sun.

The fun on March 13 will begin with the Shamrock Run & Walk at 9:00 a.m., followed by a post-race celebration at the posh Columbia Club on Monument Circle. There will be live Irish entertainment to accompany the spread of customary Gaelic treats, so make sure to stop in and soak up the jolly atmosphere. Don your festive green best and head downtown early to get a good spot for all of the action.

Head back downtown on March 17 for the rest of the biggest party in Indianapolis. The day will commence bright and early with the traditional greening of the canal at 6:00 a.m. This live event promises to be a good time and is hosted by the Hoosier Lottery. The canal will remain emerald all day, so make sure to stop by and check it out.

Next is the biggest event of the day and one of downtown’s most eagerly anticipated events of the Spring–the 30th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, beginning at 11:30 a.m. This two-hour extravanganza has it all, including several Indianapolis area high school bands; an Indiana Live! Casino float; several prominent Indianapolis radio stations; and of course, the city’s very own leprechaun.

Following the parade at the end of the route will be everyone’s favorite part of the day–the tent party! The live entertainment rolls on along with plenty of festive eats, green beer and free admission. Check back at the Indianapolis St. Patrick’s Day Celebration website for more information, including location, for this event.

And the tent party this year holds a special surprise–the honoring of Indy’s Irish Citizen of the Year. To find out who it is and why he or she was chosen, make sure you show up downtown on March 13.

St. Patrick’s Day in Indianapolis never fails to be a good time. And you can feel good about all that fun, because the celebration is sponsored by the Indy Sports Foundation, whose mission is to support amateur sports and its impact and influence on the common good of central Indiana.
