Steve Burton, Actor

Steve Burton is an actor born in June of 1970 in Indianapolis. His family subsequently moved from Indiana to Cleveland, where he was raised. His high school degree, however, came from the prestigious Beverly Hills High School.

A mere four years after graduating from that Fame-type high school, Burton was signed by the producers of General Hospital to a long-term contract that would put his name solidly on the list of famous soap opera celebrities. The talented, good-looking Hoosier in the news took command of the role of Jason Morgan in that premier daytime drama, and is still working on the show today in the ABC spin-off called General Hospital: Night Shift.

In 1998, Burton was awarded with a Daytime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work on General Hospital. As it turns out, his character, Jason Morgan, is one of the longest running of the show. Burton was the third actor to interpret the role. He made his debut in December of 1991 and worked steadily on the set of the well-known soap until 2000, when he decided to leave the show to see what other kind of acting jobs he might drum up elsewhere.

Burton got his first break in a 1987 television sitcom called Out of this World. He also made appearances on Days of our Lives, Circus of the Stars, The New Hollywood Squares, Who’s the Boxx, Cyber Tracker, Soaps’ Most Unforgettable Love Stories, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Intimate Portrait, Soap Talk and Taken, a sci-fi miniseries made for TV.

Burton’s films, thus far, include The Last Castle, with Robert Redford and James Gandolfini, and Semper Fi, a series pilot by Dreamworks. Burton also made inroads in the area of voice acting work for movies and video games from 2005 through 2009.

In May of 2002, Burton returned to the General Hospital fold, and renewed his contract, to the endless relief of his many fans, in October of 20008. The actor is also an aspiring director and producer, and enjoys doing stand-up comedy.

The already-imposing rosters of famous Indianapolis people and Hoosiers in the News are both nicely enhanced by Steve Burton’s name.
