Springtime brings out the lover in us all. Celebrate your inner romantic with Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre’s production of Hello Dolly! This famous matchmaking musical offers some of the most memorable songs in the musical theatre world. A winner of ten Tony Awards during its Broadway run, Hello Dolly! has proved itself to be an American classic, time and again.

Based on Thorton Wilder’s The Matchmaker, Hello Dolly! follows the bold life of Dolly Levi, who has both personality and an agenda. Set during the turn of the twentieth century, Dolly Levi has the task of arranging a match for the wealthy Horace Vandergelder. Once she lays eyes on this handsome hunk, she decides she has finally found a match for herself. While Horace lusts after a pretty young widow, Dolly schemes to win her man.

Hello Dolly! was first brought to the stage by David Merrick in 1964, when it won the Tony Award for Best Musical, plus nine others. Carol Channing starred as the original Dolly Levi, along side David Burns in the role of Horace and Charles Nelson Riley in the role of Cornelius. The Broadway production enjoyed a long and illustrious run, with stars like Ginger Rogers, Betty Grable, Phyllis Diller and Ethel Merman stepping into the title role. It has seen three revivals on Broadway, including an all black production. In 1969, Barbra Streisand made the role her own, opposite Walter Matthau as Horace, in the musical film directed by Gene Kelly. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won three.

With music from the master mind composer Jerry Herman, Hello Dolly! offers a score filled with great songs. These include “It Takes A Woman,” “Put On Your Sunday Clothes,” “So Long Dearie,” “Ribbons Down My Back,” “It Only Takes A Moment” and of course “Hello Dolly!” Favorite Indianapolis artist, Mark Goetzinger, reprises the role of Horace Vandergelder. Beef and Boards welcomes the very talented Chicago actress, Iris Lieberman, to star in the title role of this hit musical.

Tickets to this Indianapolis performing arts event range from $35.00 to $58.00 and include Chef Odell Ward’s buffet, tea, lemonade and coffee. Hello Dolly! at Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre is sponsored, in part, by Indianapolis Woman magazine. Don’t miss this exciting Indianapolis arts event.
