Plump’s Last Shot Restaurant and Bar

Plump’s Last Shot Restaurant and Bar sports its somewhat odd name for a reason. Owner Bobby Plump is a famous Indianapolis personage, and his “last shot” went through a basketball hoop and then on to inspire the Gene Hackman movie Hoosiers. If you’re lucky, you might get to meet him at his favorite Indianapolis restaurant and bar, Plump’s Last Shot, and hear the story first-hand. He might even make you a sandwich.

Born in smalltown Pierceville, Indiana, Bobby Plump now resides in Indianapolis. But Milan High School is where it all began. That’s where Bobby’s basketball team called home and where they came from to win the Indiana state basketball championship in 1954. Though Hoosiers is a glitzy Hollywood account of the endearing story, it portrays the basics, including the “last shot” that put the team over the top.

Plump’s Last Shot Restaurant and Bar is now owned by Plump’s son, but from time to time you’ll see Bobby there talking basketball. You might find his famous Indianapolis sports pals there too, such as Brad Stevens, Coach of the Butler Bulldogs. They both love to gab at length on the subject of Indianapolis basketball, but Stevens is equally loquacious about the food at Plump’s, especially the tenderloin sandwich.

If that isn’t enough to motivate all Hoosiers, especially those living in Broad Ripple Village, to stop by and have a shot at Plump’s, the fun Indianapolis bar also offers tons of basketball memorabilia, great quesadillas, awesome pulled pork, strong drinks, superlative onion rings, large portions and reasonable prices on some above-average bar food.

Friendly to dogs as well as people, Plump’s Last Shot Restaurant and Bar is an icon in the neighborhood, as Bobby himself is an icon in Indianapolis basketball. The bar and restaurant in Broad Ripple Village is the logical extension of an exciting life, well lived. And 70-plus year old Bobby Plump, who went on to break records in professional basketball, isn’t done yet… not by a long shot.
