“Always. . . Patsy Cline”

Patsy Cline was a legendary figure in the country music industry. This Indianapolis performing arts event opens May 6 and runs through June 6 on stage at Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre. Tickets range from $35.00 to $58.00 and include Chef Odell Ward’s specially prepared buffet with fruit and salad bar, unlimited coffee, tea and lemonade.

Always. . . Patsy Cline celebrates the life, friendship and music of the beloved country singer. Never before seen on stage at Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre, this is a highly anticipated Indianapolis event by Hoosier fans of Patsy Cline. In fact, the play focuses on Patsy Cline’s relationship with her fans, who she loved. The show is based on the actual friendship between Patsy Cline and a fan named Louise Seger. The two became great friends and pen pals after a chance meeting before one of Patsy Cline’s performances at a Houston honky tonk in 1961.

Seger arrived at the show ninety minutes early and ran into Cline, who was traveling alone. The woman struck up a conversation over a pot of strong coffee, chatting about their lives, common concerns and the world around the. When Cline left, they exchanged phone numbers and addresses. Though Seger never expected to hear from Cline again, she soon received the first of what would come to be an avalanche of letters. Overtime, their relationship transforms from fan worship to one of mutual respect, as the pair share more and more.

As the pair upheld an in depth correspondence for a number of years, Patsy would routinely end her letters with “Always. . . Patsy Cline.” These letters form the foundation of this storytelling musical, which acts as an enduring tribute to the music of Patsy Cline. The show is filled with down home country humor, true emotion and even some audience participation as actors and singers perform a check list of Pasty Cline’s greatest hits. The song list includes “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Anytime,” She’s Got You” and “Waking After Midnight.” With twenty seven songs in all, Patsy Cline fans are bound to hear their favorite numbers.

New York based actress Christine Mild takes the title role, which she has performed to critical acclaim across the United States. Pulling double duty, Mild also serves as director, with assistance from Jeff Stockberger (Footloose and The Foreigner). Erin Parker dons the role of Louise Seger. Accompanying the actors is a full band: Terry Woods on piano, Tim Kelly on drums, Michael Clark on guitar and steel guitar, Jayson Elliot on upright bass, Sarah Hund on fiddle and Marc Imboden on guitar.
