Mecum Indy Spring Classic Car Auction

The Mecum Indy Spring Classic Car Aucition has been in high gear since yesterday, Wednesday, May 19, 2010 but the fun lasts all weekend, with the most prestigious cars being saved for last. As the World’s Largest Collector Car Auction, the Mecum Indy Spring Classic Car Auction offers a range of classic muscle cars for collectors to add to their garages.

Wednesday saw a 1979 Ferrari 308 GTB up for auction, and that is just the beginning of this tremendous auto event. Of 1,750 new cars looking for good homes, 70 are classic muscle cars owned by Indianapolis business-man and local car dealer Ray Skillman. He is dividing up parts of his 175 vehicle collection, stored in his 65,000 square foot building behind his Greenwood Ford store.

Skillman plans to auction a 1970 Hemi Cuda, with less than 35,000 miles and a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 Ram Air 428 Cobra Jet, one of only 28 built. Whether you plan to bid on one of Skillman’s muscle cars or a less flashy classic like a 1979 Plymouth Volare station wagon, variety is the name of the game at this Indianapolis event.

Even if you don’t come with wallet and bidding paddle in hand, it will still be fun to peruse the wide selection of automotive history on display at the Mecum Indy Spring Classic Car Auction. See a version of the “My Name is Earl” El Camino or a race car built for the 1970s television series “Charlie’s Angels.” Also being auctioned is a 1934 Chevrolet street rod of the late NASCAR driver Kenny Irwin Jr., a 1948 Cadillac 4 door 346 CI Automatic, a 1916 Ford Model T Depot Hack and a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro.

Don’t miss this exciting auto auction at the Indiana State Fairgrounds through Sunday, May 23, 2010. Admission is $15.00 and Indianapolis kids under twelve get in for FREE. The Mecum Indy Spring Classic Car Auction takes over the Toyota Blue Ribbon, Toyota Exposition Hall, Pepsi Coliseum, Champions, West and South Pavilions. For more information, visit Mecum’s website.
