Naturally Inspired Paint Out

Who says Indianapolis art is only for Indianapolis museums or Indianapolis art galleries? The Indianapolis Zoo presents their Naturally Inspired Paint Out exhibit at the Indianapolis Zoo June 1 through August 25, 2010 at the White River Gardens. Some of the most impressive Indianapolis artists have conspired to participate in this annual event at the Indianapolis Zoo. Admission is included in the price of admission to this Indianapolis attraction.

As if the Indianapolis Zoo hasn’t given us enough reasons to visit them this summer, what with recent openings of their Butterflies exhibit and Cheetah: The Race for Survival exhibit, here is one more. The Indianapolis Zoo presents Naturally Inspired Paint Out. This Indianapolis event is happening all summer long.

At the beginning of May a group of artists were selected to participate in this annual Indianapolis Zoo event. On May 1, 2010, they spent the day on the grounds of the Indianapolis Zoo, using the natural surroundings as inspiration for original works of art. Whether they painted the foliage of the White River Gardens or any number of animals at the Indianapolis Zoo, these artists were given free range of subjects. The only requirement being that the subject be en plein air on the grounds of the Indianapolis Zoo.

Patrons to the Indianapolis Zoo may have gotten a sneak peek of these works as they roamed the grounds while the artists worked. Now its time to see these Zoo inspired works in full glory. The paint has dried and The Great Frame Up has performed their framing services, making these original paintings ready for display in the Schaefer Rotunda of the White River Gardens.

These works will be on display for the rest of Summer to be enjoyed by the public at their leisure. As you enjoy a day of fun interacting with the various animal exhibits at the Indianapolis Zoo, take a walk to the White River Gardens to enjoy artistic interpretations of these very same experiences. If you fall in love with a piece of work, head back to the Indianapolis Zoo on August 26 for a silent auction and artist reception at the Hulman Riverhouse.

Each work of art will be sold at auction to the highest bidder. Even if you don’t get the work you bid on, the auction sill affords the chance to speak with the artists about their creative process, the source of inspiration and the process of painting in the open air. All of the auction’s proceeds benefit the Indianapolis Zoo.

With prime Indianapolis real estate near the Indianapolis Canal Walk and White River State Park, the Indianapolis Zoo is located near a host of other Indianapolis attractions. Its neighbors include the Indiana State Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum, the NCAA Hall of Champions and the Indiana History Center.
