With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock and Willie Gilbert, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is based on the 1952 Shepherd Mead book of the same name. The story centers around J. Pierrepont Finch, a young window cleaner with high aims. When he receives the book How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, a disembodied “book voice” tells him everything he needs to know is in his hands. With this he enters the World Wide Wicket Company searching for a job.

By simply following the steps of the how-to book, Finch quickly works his way up the corporate ladder. Starting in the mail room, he lies, steals and cheats his way to the top, eventually becoming the Vice President in Charge of Advertising. In the process, he makes more than a few enemies and even collects and admirer or two. Can he have it all and do it all?
