It’s All Happening at the Indianapolis Zoo this September

There are still lots of fun happenings at the Indianapolis Zoo in September 2010. Whether you go to play with the dolphins, stare at the Komodo dragons or soak in the beauty at the Hilbert Conservatory, spend a day at the Indianapolis Zoo this month and you’ll see why it is one of the top Indianapolis attractions, drawing visitors from all over Indiana, the United States, and beyond.

Hispanic Heritage Fiesta, Sunday, September 19, noon to 4:00 p.m.: Coming right up on September 19, 2010 is the Hispanic Heritage Fiesta, which will include live Spanish music, dance exhibitions, tempting Mexican food and special activities for the Indianapolis children in attendance. This is one of the main celebrations in Indy of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 15 every year. The Indianapolis event at the Zoo augments another similar but much bigger public party, the Fiesta Indianapolis, another Indianapolis festival that honors the colorful Mexican heritage. Some 35,000 revelers are expected to be at the Veteran’s Memorial Plaza and American Legion Plaza in downtown Indianapolis to enjoy the Fiesta Indianapolis. The Hispanic Heritage Fiesta and the Fiesta Indianapolis both promise to be extraordinary this year, since it’s the year of Mexico’s bicentennial.

Meet a Hero, Be a Hero, Saturday, September 25, 2010, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Free to members, this event is open to the public for the price of admission to the Zoo. This is an important day for those who love the Zoo and want to preserve it, as well as the conservation movement that buoys up such institutions. Meet the winners of the Indianapolis Prize, an award given for extraordinary contributions toward the conservation of an animal species. This is a cash award of $100,000, and entrants are gathered from all around the world. This year’s winner is Iain Douglas-Hamilton, president of a group called Save the Elephants. Meet him and the past laureate and other finalists during this happening. There are some great activities for kids planned, conservation-related to start them off young down the righteous path. Located in the Dolphin Adventure Gallery at the Indianapolis Zoo.

The Fall Gardens Show – Art in the Garden, Saturday, September 25 through November 14, 2010: Visit the stunning Hilbert Conservatory, at the Zoo in the Indianapolis White River Gardens, to take in a whole new kind of art show. Art in the Garden displays unique pieces of art that work beautifully to enhance any garden, rain, snow or shine. It’s the hottest ticket today in home design, and a very special event offered by the Indianapolis Zoo and the Hilbert Conservatory. Celebrate the showy colors of the fall season at this Indianapolis Zoo happening. It’s a perfect time to check out the flowers and foliage of White River Gardens, too.

And hard on the heels of September, visitors to the Indianapolis Zoo can enjoy next month’s popular Halloween ZooBoo, starting in mid-October. There’s nothing like a hay maze to bring in the Fall season for real.

Every month at the Indianapolis Zoo, interesting happenings abound. With all this going on, you might be interested in taking a look at the Zoo’s membership plans and benefits, an exceptional family value.
