White River State Park: Extraordinary Beauty and Unique Events in Indianapolis

There are two great things about the White River State Park: There’s always something going on, and it’s breathtakingly beautiful. This lush Indianapolis park space is the one and only urban state park in the entire United States. And it’s located in downtown Indianapolis.

A couple of under-touted happenings in downtown Indianapolis along the Canal Walk are coming up tomorrow, September 25, 2010, at the Indiana State Museum. From 10:00 am until noon, you can visit the “Create a Coral Session” and see the incredible re-creation of an authentic, colorful coral reef, all in crochet work done by volunteers. And afterward, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, visit “Archaeology I.D. Day” at the Indiana State Museum. You can take your own fossils and archeological findings to one of the professional archeologists at this popular Indianapolis museum, where it will be identified for you by the experts. (Also see our Fun City Finder article with details and photos about the current exhibits and events at the Indiana State Museum.)
Another upcoming event in Indianapolis that you may not have heard about is the Indiana Vision Expo, coming up on Saturday, September 25, 2010. This interesting gathering will take place between 9:30 am and 3:00 pm at the Indiana State Library, to be found just north of the Canal Walk in White River State Park, near Military Park. Age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma are on the rise. It’s good that Hoosiers with these problems, and other problems that cause vision loss can come together at this conference to network and investigate the newest developments in related products and services. This event marks the culmination of Indiana Vision Awareness Week.

The Indiana State Library, founded in 1825, is a repository for state records of all types that makes a for a fascinating visit by all Hoosiers in Indiana. A nice free event at the Indiana State Library is their “Fiction to Film” offering, coming up this Sunday, September 30, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Many of the premier Indianapolis attractions are situated along the people-friendly Indianapolis Canal Walk, a major portion of the White River State Park. The Canal Walk, in fact, constitutes an important attraction in Indianapolis all by itself. Did you know that you can get an all-inclusive pass to this splendid section of Indy that includes admission to see the Indianapolis Indians play baseball at Victory Field, to the Eiteljorg Museum, the Indiana State Museum, the IMAX Theater, the NCAA Hall of Champions, and the Indianapolis Zoo, a favorite of Indianapolis children of all ages?

There’s never a lack of things to do in Indianapolis, especially at the White River State Park in the heart of the Circle City.
