Flashes of Hope Photography Show Supports Pediatric Research

Nothing twinges hearts like the thought of children suffering through terminal illnesses. Perhaps the saddest occurrence in the modern world is seeing these young lives faces such a large challenge armed only with innocence and fear. Flashes of Hope is a national nonprofit organization that seeks to change the way children with cancer see themselves through the gift of photography. This Friday, May 27 Karen Vance Photography hosts a Flashes of Hope Photography Show to raise money for pediatric cancer research. The Indianapolis Chapter of American Society of Media Photographers created and organized this show, featuring photographs from 10 Indianapolis artists.

The Indianapolis not for profit branch of Flashes of Hope offers Indianapolis society a chance to get involved with pediatric cancer research. By photographing children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses, photographers seek to change the way these kids see themselves. Portraits, taken by celebrated photographers, help children accept and process their changing appearance by celebrating their strength. The project also helps families of these children preserve the beauty and dignity of their child.
Volunteers transform hospitals from dull and lifeless places with laughter and smiles during photo shoots at various hospitals across the United States. Each month, hospital playrooms, waiting rooms, lobbies and hallways become photography studios. Make-up artists are on hand to help kids and their moms feel and look their best. Then each child is photographed individually and with their closest supporter, be it mom, dad, sister, brother or their favorite nurse.

Each family who participates in the photo shoots receive framed enlargements, proofs and a CD of the images so they can share the triumphant photos with friends and family across the country. Because of the generosity of spirit in each volunteer, this service is provided totally free of charge. These snap shots provide valuable memories to families who lose their children in the battle against cancer and to those who survive the frightful ordeal.

With events like the upcoming photography show at Karen Vance Photography, these photos are put to good use to raise funds to help cure terminally ill children. While the event is FREE, donations are accepted. Or purchase a photo to take home with you so you can be reminded of the strength that exists in places of weakness.
