An Epic Tale of Desperation: Les Misérables Arrives in Indy

Les Miserables The critically acclaimed film, Les Misérables, has arrived on the Indy art scene, and is playing locally at Landmark’s Keystone Art Cinema & Indie Lounge. This all-around spectacular motion-picture is based on an adaptation of Victor Hugo’s historic novel, Les Misérables, originally published in 1862.

Australian native Hugh Jackman, who made his first major film appearance in the U.S. as Wolverine in the first installment of the X-Men franchise, plays the protagonist, Jean Valjean. Other leading stars include Russel Crowe as Inspector Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, and Amanda Seyfried as Cosette.

Les Misérables takes place in romantic, 19th-century France, and is a colorful portrayal of Inspector Javert’s quest to capture escaped convict Jean Valjean. Valjean, who started out as an honest man whose only crime was stealing bread to feed his sister’s starving family, is now hunted by Javert, decades after breaking his parole. But when Valjean agrees to care for Fantine’s young daughter, Cosette, destinies will be forever altered.

Les Miserables is one of the most acclaimed films of the year. The list of awards and nominations includes a Director’s Guild of America nomination for Best Director (Tom Hooper); 3 Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress; 8 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress; 4 Screen Actors Guild of America awards, including best Ensemble Cast, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress. In addition, it was voted one of the best films of the year by more than 70 publications, including American Film Institute, Newsweek, People, National Board Review, Rolling Stone, The Huffington Post, New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and the Producers Guild of America.

Landmark’s Keystone Art Cinema & Indie Lounge features seven 7 state-of-the-art cinema theaters. It is located in the Fashion Mall at Keystone. The Indie Lounge is available for rental by private parties interested in hosting private events.
