Naptown Tornado Sirens in Star Wars Bout at Marsh Blue Ribbon Pavilion

naptown tornado sirensGet ready to rumble…and roll! These roller girls will certainly get your pulse going as they engage in a “Star Wars Bout” versus the Bleeding Heartland Roller Girls at the Marsh Blue Ribbon Pavilion on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Expect action-o-plenty as these girls jam, pass the star, wall up, goat and bump against their opponent.

The Naptown Roller Girls and their flat-track roller derby style harkens back to an earlier era in roller derby sports that dates back to the 1940s. Over 60 years later, roller derby is still going strong. As of 2010, this Indianapolis based league had played their fifth season. The Naptown Roller Girls are members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

You may not realize it, but the Naptown Roller Girls are just one of more than 1,400 amateur roller derby leagues worldwide.  In fact, roller derby  is under consideration as a sport for the 2020 Olympics!
