Penrod Arts Fair Kickstarts "Indiana’s Nicest Weekend" on Friday Night

Indiana’s Nicest Day has become Indiana’s Nicest Weekend says Penrod Society PR Committee Chair Blake Koriath. That’s because this year’s installment of the Penrod Arts Fair will commence a day earlier than usual, or more specifically, an evening earlier, on Friday night.

For the first time ever, the 47-year old annual event, which runs every year to raise funds for Central Indiana arts and educational organizations, will begin around 6pm at the Indianapolis Museum of Art near 38th Street and Michigan Road. And from the sound of things, it’s going to be a blast, at least for anyone 21 and over.

The music begins at 6pm as the Butler String Quartet performs at the “Rock Stage.” They are followed by the Butler Saxophone from 6:30 – 7pm, and singer-songwriter Todd Daniel Snider from 7-9 pm. Snider’s style has been described as blend of Americana, alt-country, and folk, with a twinge of rock.

Ocean Air, Ruth’s Chris and Ocean Prime are among 15 local restaurants that will be serving up samples at no additional charge to all ticket holders—not your typical festival food, that’s for sure!

The Main Event

But Saturday is when the main event takes place, starting at 9 am. The Indiana Craft Beer Garden will be serving adult beverages, in addition to tons of other food and drink vendors. Live entertainment will feature 23 different music acts on six different stages. Around 350 artists will be represented, and over 50 arts-related exhibitors will be on-site selling everything from hand-made jewelry to paintings. Finally, there will be plenty of things for kids to do in the designated children’s area.

The Penrod Arts Fair is one of the largest art fairs in the country, with typical attendance estimated close to 30,000 each year. FunCityFinder staff will be on-site Saturday, taking photos and videos; so be sure to check back soon, as we will be posting additional coverage of the fair.

The fair is a great opportunity to celebrate the creative spirit of Central Indiana and have some fun outside while the weather is still seasonably nice. Where will you be on Saturday?
