Economics of Early Education Summit

President Obama spoke again about the importance of early education in last night’s State of the Union Address. “Last year, I asked this Congress to help states make high-quality pre-K available to every 4-year-old. As a parent as well as a president, I repeat that request tonight.”

United Way of Central Indiana also sees the importance of early childcare and is in it’s second year of the Kids Need Quality campaign which focuses on boosting awareness on the roll high quality childcare plays in children’s lives before age six and how that education sets the trajectory for their future success as well as the success of society.

Registration is now open for a free Economics of Early Education Summit put on by UWCI from 9-11 am on Wednesday, February 19, at Light of the World, 4646 Michigan Road in Indianapolis. This event is open to the public and will feature a keynote address given by nationally recognized economist Robert H. Dugger, co-founder of ReadyNation, a business partnership that promotes early childhood policies to strengthen the economy and workforce.

Dugger will speak about how our workforce productivity, health and other areas of civic life correlate with quality early childhood education. By investing in these public policy’s now, Dugger believes it will cut back on future expenses.

Gerry A. Dick, host and creator of Inside Indiana Business television, will moderate a question and answer session after the keynote and a screening of the 30-minute documentary, Are We Crazy About Our Kids?, will also be included in the event. Along with the Summit, United Way of Central Indiana will also be hosting a series of by-invitation-only group meetings to advocate for quality childcare public policy changes.

“Through this event, we hope to raise awareness of the tremendous value of quality early childhood education and child care experiences. We invite everyone to use this opportunity to get fully informed on this critical issue and help us advocate with their elected officials for legislation before the Indiana General Assembly,” said  Ann D. Murtlow, president and CEO of United Way of Central Indiana.
