Famous Indiana Pacers – Indianapolis Basketball Team Players and Coaches

The Indiana Pacers, favorite stars of Indianapolis sports in general and Indianapolis basketball in particular, have turned out many nationally-famous players and coaches.

Below is a listing of some famous Indianapolis people who have played basketball for the Pacers and  in Indianapolis and throughout Indiana.

Larry Bird – CEO of the Pacers, and former standout player for Indiana State University and the Boston Celtics
Roy Hibbert – The Pacers drafted the former Georgetown Hoya with the 17th pick in the 2008 NBA.  He displays All-Star caliber skills on the offensive end.
Mike Dunleavy – Forward for the Pacers, Dunleavy’s father, also named Mike, is a well-known player and coach for the NBA.
Danny Granger – A forward for the Indiana Pacers, this versatile player is known known for his agility and shooting stroke.
Jeff Foster – Foster, a hustling rebounder who’s become a fan favorite at Conseco Fieldhouse, is entering his 12th season with the Pacers.
Tyler Hansbrough – Hansbrough had a prolific college career at North Carolina,where he was Naismith Award winner.
Paul George – George was the Pacers first round pick in the 2010 NBA Draft (10th overall).  He had an outstanding two-year career for the Fresno State Bulldogs before coming to Indiana.
Josh McRoberts – Originally from Carmel, Indiana, McRoberts had a successful career for the Duke Blue Devils, and was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in the 2nd round of the 2007 NBA Draft. He was traded to his hometown Pacers before the 2008 season.
Brandon Rush – Rush is heading into his third year as a member of the Indiana Pacers.  He has failed to live up to his lofty draft status thus far.
Dahntay Jones – Jones, a veteran of four NBA teams, was signed by the Pacers prior to the start of the 2009 NBA season.
A.J. Price – Price was a standout point guard for the University of Connecticut. He is entering his second season for the Pacers
Troy Murphy – Murphy has been an integral cog in the Pacers offense  since coming over in a trade with the Golden State Warriors in 2007.
Reggie Miller – Former NBA Basketball player and shooting guard with the Pacers and a future Hall of Fame inductee.
Bobby “Slick” Leonard – Leonard is a former coach of the Pacers, and is currently the color analyst for the team’s radio broadcast.
Mark Boyle – Boyle’s been the “Voice of the Indiana Pacers for a franchise record 22 consecutive seasons.
Jim O’Brien – O’Brien has posted a 104-147 record in three seasons as the Pacers Head Coach.
Marquis Daniels –A former guard for the Pacers, Daniels has tattoo featuring a man committing suicide with a gun on his body, and won a championship with the Boston Celtics.
Jamaal Tinsley – Former point guard for the Pacers, Tinsley’s antcis, both on the court and off, set the Pacers franchise back 15 years.
Ron Artest – One of the most infamous Pacers, Ron Artest played a pivotal role in the Pacers – Pistons brawl. Artest is one of the league’s premier defenders, winning the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2004 while he was still playing for the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Rik Smits – Otherwise known as “The Dunkin’ Dutchman,” Rik Smits is a retired professional basketball player who spent his entire career with the Indiana Pacers. Born in the Netherlands, Rik Smits moved to Indianapolis when he was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in 1988.
